Don’t remember since when, I want to try at least once skydiving during my life time. This summer, I was lucky to get the chance to attend a wonderful conference in the beautiful San Diego, so I decided to do my first jump after the conference. To experience the feeling of flying, paragliding is also a good choice. However, because of the time limitation, I chose to do skydiving only during my stay in San Diego.
I chose Pacific Coast Skydiving to do my first skydying skydiving because of their high rating online. After signed for a plenty of documents and a long waiting, my instructor John came to teach me what should I do during falling and how to do a safe landing. He was very nice and funny. I was a little bit nervous but not scared because I believe my instructor will control everything.
They brought me onto the Pacific Ocean and you can see the beautiful sea coast and the amazing blue skyline. Also I saw the broader of the United State and Mexico clearly. The United States side looked a little barren but once cross the broader, I saw dense houses on the Mexico side.
To do the skydiving, the weather matters. The weather in California during summer is always good. No rain, no cloud, no strong winds, beautiful coast. Perfect condition for skydivers !
There are also many places around the world can do skydiving. Ohu island in Hawaii, Australia, and Dubai are especially popular because of the magnificent and beautiful views.
After jumping out from the airplane, which is my favorite part, you will feel the strong wind and the cold air. Because the wind was so strong, it was a little bit hard to breath during the free fall.
Before the parachute open, you can enjoy 45 seconds to 1 minute free falling. John wore an altimeter on his wrist to show him how high (or low) we are at a given time. Then he will open the parachute, I actually don’t need to do anything – just focus on seeing the amazing view.
After the parachute opened, you can also experience the feeling of paragliding during the final part of skydiving. I bet that is the view what those superheroes see 🦸. In the rest 5-6 minutes, the instructor will control the direction and lead us to the correct falling place.
I enjoy my first jump in San Diego. Totally I spent about 2.5 hours for the whole skydiving. Coincidentally, my Uber driver picked me up to downtown was used to be a pilot. He said he brought many people to the sky for skydiving everyday, but he didn’t even jump once. He didn’t know why, it seems always not the time to do it.

Although people love skydiving, we should understand that it has its risk for accidents. Once you decide to jump, you should be responsible to your own decision. For tandem skydiving, instructors jump with customers several times a day and they always keep themselves aware and be very careful before every jump. Even through, there is no 100 % guarantee for your own safety (that is why you have to sign a lot of documents and say no matter what happen, you won’t sue them 😅)!
So think carefully before the jump‼ Once you decide, just enjoy it 😉!
